I think that when a complaint is made about the police,it should be investigated by an independent authority and not by their own professional standards which is in fact the police investigating the police, this is wide open to abuse and is not impartial, how many officers are actually found guilty of the complaints made against them, this practice of seemingly impartial police officers investigating other police officers is a joke, this practice should be changed, why do the police want this kept in house, self explanatory i think.

Suggestion

the impartial and independent investigation of the police complaints system had members of the public involved as in jurys,it would also be better if the police stopped using the excuse for no public involvement as (for operational purposes),

Comment: Re: Police Complaints Investigation Unit

Certainly the Police need independent investigation and accountability. They are a law unto themselves and this is not right in a democracy. I was nearly killed by a very arrogant motorist and the Police do not even have a record of this. My feelings about UK police are "incredible but true".
Serious change is needed.
